Psystar Uncovered: Our Investigation Begins
December 3rd, 2008 by SJC | Filed under Special Investigations.Hold on to your hats, boy and girls, ’cause things are about to get exciting. Many commenters — in particular legal eagle and Kool-Aid monitor Dizzle, who’s been on the case far longer than certain other upstarts blogs (cough Groklaw cough) — have long suspected that Psystar has some major shadowy backers. If you think about it, it explains how they can afford the fancy Miami digs and expensive lawyers. Well, we can exclusively reveal that we’re about to get hard proof of these backers’ identities.
For a while now we’ve been in exclusive contact with someone from inside Psystar. They first contacted us a few weeks ago, after being disgusted at the way Æ was treated while covering their product launch at the end of October. Earlier today we learnt that this person — who out of misguided nostalgia I made the mistake of giving the code name “Deep Throat” — would be briefly visiting London. Unfortunately I was unable to make the secret rendezvous myself, so I sent Æ’s ace reported Connor Byrne instead. “Go see Deep Throat and report back,” I told him. Yeah, I suppose I shouldn’t have been surprised at how that turned out:
“OK, so I saw Deep Throat, like you said. Got it via the torrents. Whoa. First impressions: why do people bother trying to give porno movies plots? And I don’t know what was worse, the 70’s hairstyles or how hairy all their — “
You get the idea. So, determined not to make the same mistake, I rescheduled the meeting with our contact and set off. Afraid that I may be being followed, I attempted to throw off my pursuers. I started by taking a series of cabs from Æ’s Central London HQ to Liverpool Street station, where I caught the Circle Line and doubled back to Waterloo. From there I took an overland train to Wimbledon, but fell asleep and woke up in Guildford. Returning to Wimbledon, I then took the District Line back into London, arriving about three hours late for the meeting. Finally back at ÆHQ, I found an e-mail from our contact saying they had a flight to catch and couldn’t wait any longer but they’ll e-mail me the evidence.
We’ll bring you an update as soon as we hear more. I can almost taste that Pulitzer.
