iPhone App Maps Users with Money to Burn

September 26th, 2008 by Connor Byrne | Filed under News, iPhone.

Taking a retrograde step, the latest fad iPhone app after the virtual flashlight is the virtual lighter[1]. One of them — Sonic Lighter from SonicMule (Smule to its friends) — even managed to get a mention in TechCrunch.

So which bit of Web 2.0 wankery was responsible for this? It appears that Sonic Lighter is location-aware, and that when you start waving it about you are — in addition to doubtless looking a right twat — adding to the international lighter-waving status of your current city. Folding@Home this is not. Still, the Google maps mash-up on Smule’s main page may be useful if you’re ever in a hurry to locate the densest concentration of people willing to fork over $1 (or 59p in real money) for a video of a flickering flame.

[1] I hear-by patent the iPhone virtual stick, or iStick. When two iStick users meet they can rub their iPhones together to create fire. I will be rich.
